The Olympic Culinary Adventure is a route leading you through four Olympic Peninsula counties to destinations offering authentic Olympic Coast Cuisine. From oyster farm to creamery; farmers markets to wineries; a variety of restaurants offering fresh, locally- grown, -harvested and -produced fare; and a highly-recommended scenic hike along the Cape Flattery Trail, you will experience the beauty and bounty of the region! Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes at your leisure from September 1 through November 30.

The Grays Harbor (Hoquiam) Public Market is a vendor co-op specializing in local talent, products and foods. Deidra's Deli and Nancy's Bakery are the foundation of the market. The summer months bring mouthwatering local, organic vegetables and fruits, along with fresh foraged foods such as chanterelle mushrooms and heritage apples. Anthony Stricevich is a master sausage maker, specializing in kielbasa, razor clam sausage (his own invention), cranberry sausage and many kinds of pepperoni and summer sausages. Artists and craftspeople keep a constant flow of imaginative products moving through the market.

Open year-round: Sunday-Monday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday-Thursday 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Tuesdays.

In the fall of 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Lake Quinault Lodge during a fact-finding trip and enjoyed lunch in the later-named Roosevelt Dining Room. Nine months later, Roosevelt signed a bill creating Olympic National Park. Today you'll enjoy outstanding cuisine in the Roosevelt Dining Room from Executive Chef Patrick Norris, as well as panoramic views of the lake and the mountains beyond.

Visit the Hama Hama Oyster Farm and Seafood Store for the best in Northwest shellfish and seafood. They sell their farm-fresh oysters any way you might want them (smoked, in the shell, shucked or pickled), plus live steamers clams, live crab, wild salmon and their own famous hot-smoked salmon. In addition to seafood, they also sell locally-produced cheeses, ground beef, ice cream, crackers, chocolates, beer and wine. Come by to picnic on the waterfront, watch the oyster shuckers in action and the various goings-on at the oyster farm, and learn about Northwest sea life in their salt water aquarium. Please call ahead to schedule a tour.

Finnriver is a 33-acre organic family farm and artisan cidery located along a restored salmon stream in Chimacum's rural and scenic Center Valley. Directions: located 2.7 miles south of the Chimacum four-way intersection off Center Road, about 15 miles south of Port Townsend. Look for the Finnriver sign and turn onto Country Meadow Road. Proceed one half mile and park at the big red barn.

Hours: October to April--Friday, Saturday, Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
May to September--Thursday through Monday noon to 5 p.m.

These people are cheese evangelists, dedicated to making some of the world's finest cheese using milk produced on the Olympic Peninsula. They love showing off their makeroom and their cheese to anyone who stops by the tasting room. Founded in 2004, they now craft more than a dozen cows-milk cheeses. Their first three are probably the most familiar: Trailhead, Cirrus and Seastack. When you crave amazing cheese, Mt. Townsend is the place to be.

Cape Flattery Trail

To the west of Neah Bay lies Cape Flattery, the northwestern-most point in the contiguous United States. Located on the Makah Indian Reservation, the Cape Flattery Trail takes you on a moderate hike over a cedar plank boardwalk to viewpoints overlooking both the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Directly west, you will see Tatoosh Island, a former Makah fishing and whaling camp and a sacred place for the Makah. Walk along the 3/4 mile of groomed earthen and cedar boardwalk trail and cross bridges that span the wetlands. The 20-30-minute hike is well worth the breathtaking views. Sights include sea caves and abundant sea life. Eagles, cormorants, sea otters, octopi and falcons all find a home in this complex ecosystem.

There is no fee to hike the trail, but you need to purchase a Recreation Permit for $10 when you enter the Reservation. Permits can be purchased at: the Makah Museum, Washburn’s or Makah Tribal Center.
