Typhoon

Portland's Best Arrives in Seattle

As "Typhoon" blows into the city, with a Tsunami of unique flavors, creatively prepared and presented by Chef/Artist Bo Klein and her charming husband Steve, the city welcomes a new dining establishment to the former home of The Wild Ginger.

Located below the Pike Place Market, this Portland ,Oregon based restaurant is the third in a series of Thai/Asian eateries. After attending the grand opening celebration this month,I can safely say that the Professional Diners whom live in Seattle,"The place to be seen and still rated #1 city" can add this number to its' speed dial.

The party began with constant "Nibbles from the Grill," complimenting the diverse selection of alcohol provided by the mixture of distributors from here in the Northwest. Beer and wine poured freely, along with the standard , still popular Jagermeister ordered by several attractive young men who filled the room. The ladies were seen tipping the always lovely Veuve Cliquot champagne and sharing the attention of the patrons of the party. Most of Seattles' restaurant industry employees and their friends enjoyed the lavish evening. Typhoon welcomes it's guests with a brighter interior, a variety of seating , but most important...Wonderful food,Typhoon Thai Style. The hand carved PURPLE potstickers, shaped like the roses so famous from the Portland Rosegarden. Skewered grilled beef and green grapes dipped in a spicy lime dressing. Pattaya Ahi, a grilled tuna basted in a tasty Bo Klein sauce. Palate cleansing homemade coconut icecream, topped with rose petals, all beautifully served.

The specialty of the house,Miang Kum, a classic peasant dish, rarely served here. It featured shrimp and scallops covered in ginger, lime ,coconut and Thai chili, wrapped in a spinach leaf. Each bite, a blend of delightful flavor.

The grand opening ceremony was highlighted by the Dragon Dancers, swaying to the drums of the musicians, wildly shimmying through the capacity crowd. The evening climaxed with the eruption of hundreds of firecrackers in a deafening celebration.

With the unique melody of flavors bursting in our mouths, and the smiles on many faces, I can recommend the friendly staff, many whom you will recognized from the local scene, so make a resevation, take a date, an after work rendevous or dinner with those out of town guests. Enjoy, and see you there.
