Chef's Kitchen

Our guest chef this month is Chef/Owner Sam Crannell of LloydMartin. Named after his two grandfathers, LloydMartin offers inventive, seasonal dishes without using traditional kitchen equipment. Big, complex flavors from a little, tiny spot. Whether you sit at a window table, along the wall, or at the bar, you will be charmed by the space and thrilled by the food.


Sam's passion for inventing dishes started at a young age of 13. Perfecting pizza recipes and later bartending at a local Yacht Club, his knowledge and interest for the culinary field began to prosper. His training from The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago in 2002, a Le Cordon Bleu affiliate led him to work as sous chef from 2002-2003 at Atlantique, Chicago Magazine's Best New Restaurant of 2000. From 2003-2010, Sam worked at several neighborhood restaurants around the Seattle area, including Quinn's Pub, Oddfellows Café and Bar, and 5 Corner Market Bar and Kitchen. His dream of opening a neighborhood restaurant came to fruition with LloydMartin in 2011. LloydMartin was awarded "Best New Restaurant" 2012 from Seattle Weekly and "Best New Neighborhood Restaurant" 2012 from Seattle magazine. The restaurant distinguishes itself through creative dishes, exotic game meats, and house made ingredients that reflect Sam's innate ability to foster seasonally dynamic, astounding dishes.

At LloydMartin we have a trick to produce soul satisfying ragu. Our trick is to use fresh ingredients, love, and slow cook it in the oven. For great flavor, it's important to have an appreciation for local nature and fresh produce.
