Café to Café

For some reason, it's fun to know what someone else likes. You hear it all the time "What do you like best on the menu?" "What's your favorite tool in the kitchen?" "What would you pair with this dish?" "What wine that you make do you like best?" May not change what you're doing, it's just fun to know. So we asked this month and here's what we found out.

Bend Distillery

At Crater Lake Spirts they have two passions; living in the mountains and making great spirits. It all started with a jog through a juniper forest back in 1996 around Crater Lake National Park. Nestled on a 26-acre farm in one of the largest juniper forests on the west coast, it is no surprise that the company favorite is their first product ever produced: Crater Lake Gin! Made with nothing but juniper berry, hand-picked on the farm , Crater Lake Gin is 95 Proof American Straight; no artificial colors, preservatives or additives, it's gluten free and Certified Oregon Kosher. Try it!

Visit Bend Distillery in downtown Bend at 1024 Bond St, Ste 102, or the distillery/tasting room (get a free tour and tasting!) at 19330 Pinehurst Rd in Bend. 541-318-0200. Our favorite classic cocktail recommendation is the always fashionable Vesper (click here).

Salty's Seafood Grills

All year, Salty's goes above and beyond their normal fantastic seafood offerings with Seafood Festivals. A summer favorite is "The Wild Ones" Salmon Festival with wild salmon fresh from rivers and inlets of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Each Salty's location offers three special dishes for the festival. 2018: Cedar Plank Salmon with radicchio, baby spinach, warm pancetta vinaigrette, roasted shallot mash, aged balsamic; Salmon Lox "Bruschetta" with burrata, heirloom tomato, micro basil, broken balsamic vinaigrette; Seafood Cioppino with wild salmon, halibut, Manila clams, mussels, prawns, Dungeness crab, grilled Fremont Sourdough. Revolve True Food & Wine Bar

When talk is of favorites, dessert cannot be left off the list. At Revolve, they are rolling out new desserts for both the fresh sheet and everyday menu. What a delightful surprise to find carrot cake on the fresh sheet: grain free, fluffy, moist cake with a rich cream cheese frosting. Now that's a favorite! However, don't make your decision too soon. Other treats will be house-made ice cream, brownie a la mode, and berry shortcake. The only way to really settle on a favorite is to try them all. Hard work, but you're up to it.

Revolve is located at 10024 Main Street in Bothell. Lunch is served Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; dinner Monday-Saturday 4-9 p.m.; happy hour Monday all evening, and Tuesday-Saturday 4-6 p.m.; brunch Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 425-287-6420.

B & E Meats and Seafood

1980 was a big year for B & E: they added seafood and a smokehouse to their lineup. Smoked products have become a big part of the business, won many awards, and are a favorite with customers. The biggest favorite? B & E's Smoked Candy Salmon made from boneless, skinless strips of salmon, sweet glazed and smoked with apple and alder woods. Besides amazing flavor, it's a delicious snack or appetizer, great with meals, and wonderful on salads. Owner Jeff Green says, "Come in for a free sample. You decide if it's the best you've ever had." Cross over to the smoky side!

B & E Meats and Seafood has four locations: Queen Anne, Des Moines, Burien, and Newcastle, with varying hours. Check out more about B & E Meats and Seafood at

Lombardi's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar

An Italian icon in the Northwest, Lombardi's opened in 1987, with two locations now. On the water at the Everett Marina, the view is superb. The Mill Creek/Bothell restaurant is a staple in the community with a family atmosphere. With years of Italian dishes, how to pick a favorite? For co-owner Diane Symms it's the new grilled octopus over potato and pea puree. For co-owner Kerri Lonergan-Dreke, there are two: Penne Siciliana and Pizza Margherita. Staff favorites range from prosciutto and mushroom pizza to NW salmon prepared in different styles, to chicken Marsala, to the wine list. Try them all!

Lombardi's is located at 1620 West Marine Drive in Everett, 425-252-1886, and 19409 Bothell-Everett Highway in Bothell, 425-892-2931. See their website for hours.
