We love to see what's new in the beverage world, what restaurants, hotels, and bars are doing, and how beverages are being paired with food. Consider pairing shrimp and sunshine at Brinnon ShrimpFest or educate yourself on gin at a local distillery. So much to taste!

TRACE Restaurant and Bar

TRACE is committed to creating enriching, thoughtful, and crave-worthy culinary experiences. The menu fuses the multicultural tastes of Hawaii-born Executive Chef Steven Arial with the local flavors of the Pacific Northwest; fresh and simple, celebrating ingredients at their peak. Innovative dining experiences are paired with a unique blend of locally-infused beverage concepts that surprise and excite over the traditional blends. TRACE is located at 1112 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle inside the W Seattle hotel. Crater Lake Spirits

Jump start your bartending career or add another notch to your professional belt with Crater Lake's Annual Best Ever Bloody Mary Competition! Enter as an individual or bar/restaurant. Winner gets a trip to Bend, Oregon, and $500 to compete and represent Washington state in the Pacific's Best Bloody Mary Competition. Basic rule: use Crater Lake Vodka; Reserve Vodka; Pepper Vodka (infused with five sweet and spicy peppers-red and yellow bell, Anaheim, serrano, habanero-providing a balance that delivers a fresh garden flavor with heat), or Gin. Simply submit recipes, photo, and a short summary to Crater Lake. Preparation is half the fun!

Competition will take place at Lost Lake Café & Comet Tavern in Seattle on Sunday, June 2, from noon-2 p.m. Five recipes will be chosen from on-line submissions to compete in the mix-off. Brinnon ShrimpFest

Memorial weekend screams sun, water, and seafood. Great way to celebrate? Brinnon ShrimpFest, a community celebration of the Hood Canal Spot Shrimp and other local seafood! Try shrimp onsite plus there are limited quantities of Hood Canal Shrimp for sale. Tides are low enough this weekend for easy harvest of clams and oysters on the public beaches nearby (license required), and weather is traditionally marvelous! Family fun includes arts and craft booths, live music, kids' activities. Don't forget the annual belt sander races: bring your own decorated belt sander to enter. Races take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Brinnon ShrimpFest takes place over Memorial Weekend: May 25, 10-6, and May 26, 10-5. Gate Fee $5/day. Includes parking. Kids under 12 FREE with paying parent. Active Military and Veterans FREE (with ID). Tickets at the gate: 251 Hjelvicks Road in Brinnon.

Revolve True Food & Wine

Cocktails are just as seasonal as food. For spring and summer, you're looking for something lighter, brighter, and more refreshing. Revolve steps up to give you just what you're craving: house-made purees and shrubs with Prosecco, wine or spirits. To get you in the mood, think Rhuberry Margarita (strawberry-rhubarb puree, citrus, blanco tequila, agave, triple sec) and Chill-Out wine (Rueda, blood orange shrub, mint). In addition, they've added three new wines to their list: Vinho Verde, Vinho Verde Rosé, and Gabrile Rosé. The new drinks launched in early May to help celebrate their patio opening. Scratch Distillery

Dream of distilling? Grab the dream by attending GINology™ at Scratch Distillery. Distiller Kim Karrick has created a program that covers history, distilling overview, review of gin ingredients and developing/balancing a gin recipe. It's a one-of-a-kind gin-making class to improve your GINtelligence and take home your recipe in a Scratch custom gin bottle the same night. They know what they're doing: the "2018 Best of the Northwest" SIP Northwest awarded Scratch whiskey Double Gold. Next barrel releases mid-March; it sells out before it's bottled. Buy an online Whiskey Future and get in on the release party for all futures holders.

The Sound Hotel and Currant Bistro

Smoking cocktails is smokin' hot. Currant 'currantly' has a Smokey Manhattan using applewood chips and garnished with a smoked and candied orange slice. Sound good? Go there quickly because the spring version of smokey is coming soon with perhaps a rosemary smoked whiskey cocktail or smoked fruity tequila drink. There's usually a cocktail of the week to keep things fresh; while the Smokey Manhattan is on the menu, the leftover syrup from those is used to create the special. Or consider another Currant creation, the Velvet River, made with Woodinville Bourbon, crème de Cassis, ginger syrup, lemon and soda. Savor!

Jimmy's on Broadway

Jimmy's switches it up this spring and summer with Switchel, or haymaker's punch. It comes from the West Indies, with a resurgence of popularity in New England in the late 17th century with farmers at hay harvest time. Originally made with molasses, ginger, vinegar, and water as a thirst quencher, those Americans switched out the molasses for locally-available maple syrup. Jimmy's non-alcoholic Switchel Spritz is a balance of ginger, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, soda and lime. For a boozy thirst quencher, add Gosling's dark rum for a Gosling's Haymaker, or barrel aged gin for a Switchel with Gin.

Queen Anne Olive Oil Company

Besides being delicious, vinegar has health benefits not to be overlooked. Want a refreshing drink that doesn't contain ridiculous amounts of sugar? Think about adding vinegar to soda or sparkling water. We like to use flavored white balsamic vinegars like pomegranate-quince, Sicilian lemon, grapefruit, cascading raspberry, Cara Cara orange vanilla, coconut, peach, lemongrass-mint-so many options! Just add a tablespoon of vinegar to soda or water and add fresh fruit (lemon, grapefruit, cucumber, etc.) and you're there. If you want a stronger flavor, check out shrub recipes we have online. Come in and taste vinegars to find your favorite flavors!
