Portfolio, the teaching dining room of The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Seattle, invites the public to an educational wine dinner. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Elliott Bay from the fifth-floor restaurant as you learn about wine and food pairing. Upper-level students, guided by Chef Instructor David Wynne, prepare a four-course Northwest menu accompanied by five wines from Washington's Covington Cellars. 09/10  Non-traditional winemakers dinner with Charles Smith at Volunteer Park Cafe
On Friday, September 10, Ericka Burke and Heather Earnhardt welcome rock star winemaker, Charles Smith, to Volunteer Park Cafe for a night of celebrating great friendships, wine, food, and life in general. This will be the fourth wine dinner the ladies have hosted with Smith, and the last three are still being talked about for the abundance of great wine, delicious food, rowdy conversation, and loud music. This is not your traditional wine dinner! Come experience a selection of wines produced by Smith, named 2009 “Winemaker of the Year” by Food & Wine and 2010 “Winemaker of the Year” by Seattle magazine, paired with Burke’s beloved rustic seasonal fare. The menu includes five courses plus wine, and Smith has hinted that he’ll be bringing a super special wine to share at the dinner. Dinner begins at 7pm and cost to attend is $95/person (excluding tax and gratuity). Seating is very limited, and reservations are required. 09/10  Shorewwod Harvest Dinner 2010
The Shorewood High School Culinary Arts Program and The Culinary Arts Garden sponsored by Washington State University Extension/Master Gardener Foundation of King County will be presenting a special Harvest Dinner on Friday evening, September 10, 2010. This special fundraising dinner will take place in a beautiful private home in the Innis Arden area of Shoreline, Washington. Seating is limited to 50 people. The price per ticket is $200.00 which includes cocktails, wine and beer. The event will begin at 6:00pm. The multicourse dinner will be prepared by some of the Top Chefs in the Seattle area: Maria Hines of Tilth, Holly Smith of Café Juanita, John Sundstrom of Lark, Jerry Traunfeld of Poppy and Dana Tough and Brian McCracken of Spur Gastropub and Tavern Law. The dinner will feature the best of local products including produce from the school’s Culinary Garden. The money raised will go directly to the Shorewood Culinary Arts program and will help fund the major expansion of the Master Gardener’s Youth Education Garden. 09/11  Swiftwater Cellars Grand Opening Party
Swiftwater Cellars, located in the Suncadia resort just 80 miles east of Seattle, will host Nashville Recording Artists, LONESTAR, during its grand opening party on Saturday, September 11. LONESTAR will entertain Swiftwater Cellars' Black Diamond club members during a VIP meet and greet. Doors open to ticket holders at 5:00pm with an opening set by Oregon-based Country band, Countryfied, starting at 6:45pm. Tickets are $35 in advance and may be ordered at any Ticketswest Outlet, online at www.ticketswest.com or by calling 1-800-325-SEAT. The weekend-long celebration begins Friday, September 10, with a 10:00am ribbon-cutting ceremony at the winery, which offers sweeping views of the resort's Rope Rider golf course. Afterwards, guests may dine at the winery restaurant, The Hoist House, which will feature fresh local ingredients, Panini and flatbread pizza from its wood-burning oven and a full bar serving specialty cocktails and Swiftwater Cellars' wines. Sourced from select vineyards in the Pacific Northwest, the inaugural releases will include two Bordeaux blends, Syrah and Semillon from Washington's Columbia Valley, as well as a Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willamette Valley.

Ignore your mom and play with your food! Learn how to make three different recipes (hands on) with three of your favorite local chefs. With 22 chefs to choose from, you'll get to make great food, eat it, pair it with wine and take home the recipes. It all takes place at Salty's on Alki (they have donated their banquet space for nine years now) with check-in at 6 p.m. and classes starting at 6:30 p.m. The event benefits Providence Heritage House at the Market and Providence ElderPlace-Seattle, both of which assist frail, low-income elderly.
