Agua Verde Café & Paddle Club   206-545-8570
1303 NE Boat St, Seattle   University District
This is a funky and young place to dine. Equipped with relaxed and beautiful scenery, the food is also varied and will suit everyone's palette. Great non-alcoholic drinks and a salsa bar increase the fun. Heat lamps and clear "plastic walls" make deck dining possible all year round.
Specializing in Mexican, Outdoor.

Aladdin Falafel   206-548-9539
4541 University Way NE, Seattle   University District
Unimaginably small and crowded, this storefront has a counter with several stools and three red tables against the wall. Remaining space belongs to the kitchen. A menu board above the counter lists the inexpensive and tasty offerings: gyros, kebabs, stuffed pita.
Specializing in Greek.

Araya's   206-524-4332
4732 University Way NE, Seattle   University District
Tasty vegan Thai food is consumed at this University area restaurant while statues of goddesses keep watch over the gilt-influenced interior. Menu items include curries, soups and stir-fries.
Specializing in Vegetarian.

Big Time Brewery & Alehouse   206-545-4509
4133 University Way NE, Seattle   University District
When you're kicking back and aren't looking for ambiance, this is your place. Mismatched tables and chairs, pizza, sandwiches, beer and wine--it all works. They brew their own beer and even distribute it to other Seattle alehouses. The basic concept of Big Time? "Have a beer."
Specializing in Pub Grub.

Bilbao   206-547-5034
4500 9th Ave NE, Seattle   University District
Many different tastes await you at this tapas bar and restaurant. Entrees are few but cover a lot of ground--steak, chicken, pork, lamb, tuna and paella (vegie, seafood and seafood with chicken). You may even find lobster paella occasionally. Their tapas menu is where you'll find the most variety from a Spanish cheese platter to slow-braised ox tail to manila clams in a green herb sauce to pan-fried goat cheese over sweet onion and pine nut chutney. The room has an intimate feel with small tables and a few counter seats.
Specializing in Tapas, Spanish.

Blue Onion Bistro   206-729-0579
5801 Roosevelt Wy NE, Seattle   University District
Intentionally simple and good-humored, this University District restaurant is a fun place to eat your "Plain Jane Salad" and "Some Kind of Soup." Nevertheless, these dishes are flavorful and will satisfy the most serious palate. Meat and seafood dishes are created with equal skill. "Small" reflects the wine list both in size and price mark up.
Specializing in Eclectic.

Bombay Grill   206-632-5072
4737 Roosevelt Wy, Seattle   University District
Bombay Grill offers Indian food with an authentic twist--all the standards plus seafood specialities and even a few pasta dishes. The lunch buffet is excellent and includes sizzling vegetables on a dosa grill. They've also added weekend brunch. The full bar is very cozy. And they even have their own parking lot. Free delivery within a one mile radius.
Specializing in Indian, Brunch (Weekend), Thanksgiving.

Caspian Grill   206-524-3434
5517 University Wy NE, Seattle   University District
Hidden from prying eyes by screens in the front windows, diners can enjoy lots of vegetarian delights (a dip of diced shallots in low-fat yogurt) plus kabobs of lamb and beef. Try a platter where you get a variety of tastes.
Specializing in Persian, Middle Eastern.

Cedar's   206-527-5247
4759 Brooklyn NE, Seattle   University District
Owned by the same family that owns India House, Cedar's serves some of the city's best Indian food to locals and visitors to the University District. The menu also includes some Middle Eastern and European dishes.
Specializing in Indian, Middle Eastern, European.

Continental   206-632-4700
4549 University Wy NE, Seattle   University District
Another long-time Ave inhabitant, the Continental serves three meals a day in their light, airy two-room restaurant. Check out the Greek specialties like souvlaki, gyros and Greek pork sausage. Wine and beer.
Specializing in Greek, American, Breakfast.

Costa's Restaurant   206-633-2751
4559 University Way NE, Seattle   University District
This corner spot has been Ave eternal--who can remember when it wasn't here? It's a no-frills place with Greek specialties like souvlaki and vegetarian spanakopeta, along with French dips, tuna melts, burgers and American breakfasts. Open seven days a week.
Specializing in Greek, American.

Dante's   206-525-1300
5300 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle   University District
Dante's has been part of the University experience for years--who knows how many students have passed (or passed out) through these doors. All the priorities are met--big screen satellite TV, pinball, foosball, air hockey and video games. Full bar, beer, wine. Food-wise, it's pub grub--burgers, appetizers, chicken, salads.
Specializing in American, Pub Grub, Sports.

Fin MacCool's Irish Public House   206-675-0885
4217 University Ave NE, Seattle   University District
You'd think we'd put this under the "Irish" category, but with omelettes like "The Ulster" made of ham with jack and cheddar cheeses, it's hard to feel the Irish. There is corned beef and hash for breakfast. Hummus and nachos aren't Irish are they? Who cares anyway? Sit in one of the booths, admire the cool lighting fixtures, enjoy the two-person deck out front (while you're getting away from the smoke) and enjoy!
Specializing in American.

Flowers Bar & Restaurant   206-633-1903
4247 University Way NE, Seattle   University District
The menu at Flowers isn’t tied to any particular food type: Bouillabaisse, fettucine, couscous tuna and salads, some appetizers. They do have a list of 20 gourmet sandwiches for lunch, all under $5. The space used to be a flower shop, hence the name.
Specializing in Vegetarian.

Gaudi Spanish Restaurant   206-527-3400
3410 NE 55th St, Seattle   University District
Near the University Village, this is your spot for a leisurely European-style meal. Several paella choices (seafood/no seafood), beef, chicken and pork dishes offer a good variety. Start out or just make a meal of hot and cold tapas. Enjoy it all with Spanish wines.
Specializing in Spanish, tapas.

Hillside Quickies Vegan Sandwich Shop   206-632-3037
4106 Brooklyn Ave NE, Seattle   University District
A totally vegan menu includes subs, burgers, macaroni, deli sandwiches and desserts--cookies, bars, soft ice cream. Order to go or stay and enjoy.
Specializing in Vegetarian (Vegan), Sandwiches.

Himalayan Sherpa Restaurant   206-633-2100
4214 University Wy NE, Seattle   University District
If you want to feel like you've walked through a time warp from Seattle to Tibet, come to this charming yet simple restaurant. In the mood for yak? This is the place to go.
Specializing in Asian, Indian.

Jewel of India   206-523-5275
4735 University Wy NE, Seattle   University District
A brightly-colored interior invites you into this store-front Indian restaurant. Owner Baljit Singh has many years of restaurant experience and offers good solid dishes seven days a week, including a lunch buffet. Familes are welcome and kids six and under eat free.
Specializing in Indian, Kid-Friendly, Brunch (Sat & Sun).

New China Express   206-632-5833
4232 University Wy NE, Seattle   University District
A bright, long room holds a large screen TV (better to watch Chinese soap operas with) and is filled with incredible aromas. An inexpensive spot, it is filled with those wanting lots of flavor without a lot of pocket-book pain. They're open late (or should we say early?), so if you get a craving, you can do something about it.
Specializing in Chinese.

Northlake Tavern   206-633-5317
660 NE Northlake Way, Seattle   University District
The noise level in this tavern reaches epic proportions on weekends when it is packed to the gills with seekers of fun, beer and pizza. It’s a no-frills place decorating-wise. Extra chairs are carried over head to squeeze in a few more folks. Northlake pizzas are thick with toppings--a small is almost too much for two, especially after that second pitcher.
Specializing in Pizza.
